🏒 Companies

Team up and build a business. A company is a shared entity that holds its own money, owns shops and land, hires players, pays wages and dividends, and is run by shareholder votes β€” the more shares you hold, the more say you have.

Shortcut: plain /company works exactly like /hideoutia company.

Starting one

/hideoutia company create <name> <shares> <startingBalance> <public|private>

You fund the starting balance from your own wallet, receive all the shares, and become the company's first executive. Pick a share count up front β€” it's the fixed maximum that will ever exist and it never changes. A public company sells shares to anyone; a private one only sells to its staff and executives (gifts are always allowed).

Every share is either held by a player or sits in the company treasury β€” the unsold pool. You start holding all of them, so the treasury begins empty. To let others buy in, you float shares by selling some back to the company; they go into the treasury and become buyable.

What a share is worth: (company's money + value of its land) Γ· shares. Shops the company owns don't add to that β€” only its cash and its land do.

Owning shares

Buying doesn't dilute what existing shares are worth β€” you pay the full price in, so the per-share value is unchanged. Selling can't drain more cash than the company actually has (its land isn't liquid). You can sell your entire stake β€” it just leaves the whole pool in the treasury until someone buys back in.

Jobs and wages

Executives post jobs; anyone can apply:

You can hold one job at a time. While you're employed, your gameplay income is split 50/50 with your employer: each half is taxed at the income rate, your share lands in your wallet and the company's share in its account. So working for a company earns the company money too.

Wages are paid once a day, oldest hires first. If a company can't afford someone's wage that day, that employee is automatically let go (and everyone's mailed about it) β€” so keep the company funded.

Dividends

Profitable companies pay their shareholders. Once a day, after wages, a company pays out a slice of that day's profit (how much its balance grew) as a dividend, split by how many shares each holder owns. Shares in the treasury earn nothing β€” the whole pool goes to the players who hold shares. Set the slice with:

/hideoutia company dividend <name> <percent> (exec, 0–100)

Dividends are taxed at the dividend rate before they reach you. A company that posts no profit pays nothing that day β€” no spam.

Voting β€” shareholder motions

Big decisions are put to a share-weighted vote. An executive opens a motion:

A motion passes the moment one side holds more than half of the outstanding (player-held) shares β€” shares in the treasury don't vote and don't count toward the total; otherwise it's decided after 24 hours, where the bigger side wins and a tie is rejected (no change). Your vote is always counted at your current holding β€” sell or gift shares mid-vote and the maths updates. If the last executive ever leaves, the largest shareholder is automatically promoted, so a company is never left rudderless (unless every share has been floated to the treasury, in which case there's no one to promote).

Shops and land

An executive can hand a shop or plot they own to the company, and back again:

No money changes hands β€” the company's share value just reflects what it now owns (and any shop/land income flows into the company). On a company's land, its members β€” executives and employees β€” get build rights. Company shops have no separate lock, so restock access follows the land: anyone who can build on a company plot can restock a company shop sitting on it.

If a company fails

If a company's value can't cover even 1Β’ per share, it gets a 24-hour grace period to recover (top it up to save it). If it's still underwater when the timer runs out β€” or a dissolve motion passes β€” the company is wound up: its shops become government shops, its land returns to the government, its leftover cash goes to the treasury, and its staff are let go.

A note on permissions

There's no "executive" permission to hand out β€” being an executive is decided in-game by founding a company, a share vote, or auto-promotion. Everyone can use /hideoutia company (the hideoutia.company.use permission, default on); the actions you're allowed depend on your role in each company.
