Earning money

You're paid automatically for playing:

• ⛏️ Mining — configured blocks pay per block broken (rarer = more)
• 🌾 Farming — harvesting fully-grown crops (wheat, carrots, potatoes, beetroot, nether wart)
• 🎣 Fishing — every catch pays
• ⚔️ Mob kills — each mob type has its own bounty

Anti-cheese is built in:

• Placing a block and re-breaking it pays nothing — only naturally generated blocks count
• Crops you planted yourself do pay (that's farming!) — but only at full maturity
• Spawner-farmed mobs may pay nothing (server setting)

All gameplay income is taxed at the income tax rate before it reaches you. Every payout flashes a green +$0.23 (zombie) above your hotbar so you always see what you earned.

The four taxes 🏛️

Every rate is set by the elected Prime Minister (/hideoutia tax show to see current rates):

1. Income tax — skimmed off your mining/farming/fishing/mob earnings (default 10%)
2. Sales tax — skimmed off shop sales — the seller receives price minus tax (default 5%)
3. Land-sale tax — skimmed when land sells between players (default 8%)
4. Land-lease tax — skimmed off every rent payment (default 8%)

Every taxed penny lands in the government treasury.

The treasury

• /hideoutia gov balance — what the government has
• /hideoutia gov ledger — every transaction, fully public — see exactly where the money came from and where it went
• The PM spends it with /hideoutia gov pay <player> <amount> — public works, rewards, bribes... it's all in the ledger 👀
• Yes, it can go negative. Governments run deficits.

🤝 Welfare

Daily welfare check — a safety net paid from the treasury:

• /hideoutia welfare claim — claims your daily check (default $50)
• Only claimable while your balance is below the wealth threshold (default $500) — it's means-tested
• Resets at midnight server time, once per day
• /hideoutia welfare status — shows the amount, the threshold, and whether you can claim right now

New-player start check — every brand-new player automatically receives a one-time payment (default $200) on their very first join, with a welcome letter.

Welfare is not income-taxed (the government taxing its own handout would be silly). It pays out even when the treasury is in the red — a deep-deficit government is an election issue, not your problem.
